I always start a
project off as simple as possible keeping in mind
how much detail I'll want to add later. For this
project I've created all the elements necessary
to render images either in the air or on the ground.
This is an essential workflow as I don't want
to be limited in my options for creating unique
renders. The only area to not recieve the 'detail'
treatment is the cockpit as it is hard to see
in just about any render once a pilot occupies
the cockpit. Textures will take care of any detailing
for that area.
I have chosen Heinz Bär's Me 262 to use
as reference for my texturing. He was the Luftwaffe's
highest scoring jet Ace and used the number 13
in red as the number for his aircraft. I have
used 3 4k x 4k maps painted in Photoshop and used
Modo's procedural textures to texture small details
that I didn't think were necessary to UV.
Once I have the rivets and base camouflage completed
in separate layers in Photoshop I can use that
to build more color schemes without too much difficulty.
